“Only electronic books should be used at school”

Ø New technologies are undoubtedly having a major impact on all aspects of modern life, including education. Given the benefits of electronic devices most people today believe that it is time for electronic course books to replace traditional books in schools. However, there is still some skepticism surrounding this claim.

Ø Nowadays most people cannot imagine life without various gadgets. They even think that it is time for electronic textbooks to replace traditional books in schools. Some individuals, however, doubt that it would be a wise move.

Ø There is an opinion that electronic books should be used instead of traditional books at school. While some people support this idea, many others do not agree with it.

Ø Personally, I do not think that using only electronic course books in schools is a good idea. + From an educational standpoint, the main disadvantage is that learning from devices is not really effective. According to recent scientific findings, reading traditional books helps students to learn and remember more than reading electronic books.                                + What is more, digital texts are less stimulating for the mind. If they are chosen as the main source of information, schoolchildren’s intellectual potential and the ability to concentrate will not get a chance to develop fully.

Ø Personally, I believe that the decision to use only electronic course books in schools would be a step in the right direction. + For one thing, they are more convenient than paper books. With e-textbooks students can carry one device rather than a pile of heavy books. + Electronic textbooks are also an obvious solution for the students who cannot afford to buy expensive school books. + Another point to consider is that modern young people tend to dislike reading and are usually fond of gadgets. So, e-textbooks could encourage them to read more.

Ø However, it could be argued that the decision to use only electronic course books at school will be a step in the right direction. Proponents of this step claim that in this case students will not have to carry heavy text books around, which is a serious health issue for schoolchildren.

Ø Despite the (apparent) advantages of replacing traditional school books with e-textbooks, many people do not agree that this would be a good decision. They argue that learning from devices is not effective because schoolchildren cannot take notes. Besides, electronic textbooks are considered more distracting and less stimulating for the mind than print coursebooks.

Ø Yet, I cannot agree because this physical convenience can cause far more serious health problems. I mean the radiation from modern electronic devices and their negative effect on young people’s eyes.

Ø However, what the opponents overlook (forget) is that most e-textbooks today allow students to take notes while reading. In addition, modern electronic course books come with special features such as integrated dictionaries, for example, which are not available in a print textbook. Obviously, these features help learners stay focused on a text, learn and remember more.

Ø In conclusion, I firmly believe that although electronic books have many advantages, it is not a good idea to use them instead of traditional textbooks at school.

Ø In conclusion, I believe that only e-textbooks should be used in schools. I have no doubt about it because despite some minor drawbacks they are the best option for modern students.
