Daniel Keyes, born in New York City, is a graduate of Brooklyn College. His award-winning first novel, Flowers for Algernon (filmed as CHARLIE), is studied in high schools and colleges across the country. Keyes is married, has two grown daughters and is, at present, professor of English at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
