The very first fact which the author states is that generating power from water is safer and cleaner if compared with other resources. He also consideres rivers and seas as a powerful energy potential.

Then the author tells about the conversion of water power into electricity in the past and today.

He also describes hydroelectricity generation in Britain and indicates its three advantages. They are: usage of clean renewable resource, safety and possibility to control the amount of generated energy. There are also two major disadvantages, namely, using lots of land to make reservoirs and very high start-up costs.

But the author sees the way out of the situation in small-scale hydro-electric projects which have fewer disadvantages, are cheaper to build and less potentially dangerous.

The next part of the text is more specific because it gives information about various types of water turbines, their designs and characteristics.

When concluding the text, the author is quite positive about further application of small-scale systems which are cheap, clean, do not need much maintenance and friendly to environment.

Conclusion

The text is quite simple. It touches the problems widely discussed today by mass media. The information about the power of high sea waves is the most surprising. Although the description of turbines’ designs seems a little bit boring. It might be more interesting for those who deal with machinery.
