Equipment

· Classic Rollerskis: You will want these eventually. Many skiers have seen improvements in striding technique through the deliberate use of classic rollerski. Again, we recommend Marwe and Swenor rollerskis. For Swenor brand, choose the slowest bearings available.

· Classic Rollerski Poles with Road Ferrules: If you want maximum benefit from classic training on rollerskis, poles of the correct height are nice.

· Heart Rate Monitor: Heart rate monitors are an incredibly useful training tool. Don’t need to spend more than $50 or $100; only basic functions are needed. Not required, but we will describe training using HR zones, so we strongly encourage them for skiers who want to maximize the benefit of the training plan. Information about using a heart rate monitor can be found under “resources” on the team information page.

· Classic Training Skis: A pair of training skis that fill the gap between “race” and “rock” conditions is a useful addition to your quiver.

· Skate Training Skis: Again, useful for intermediate conditions.

Wax

· Glide Wax: glide cold (blue, ch6, etc.); glide warm (red, ch8, etc.); new ski penetration and storage wax.

· Hard Wax: green (20F and below), blue (20-25F), violet (25-32F), red (30-34F), yellow (34 and above), Synthetic cork (best to have one for cold and one for warm)

· Klister: Green, blue, violet, red, universal (warm), yellow

· Tools: Scraper; groove scraper; soft brass brush; putty knife or metal scraper for cleaning kickwax.

Ordering Equipment

We have a great relationship with Boulder Nordic Sport East which is located in Portland Maine, and The Ski Rack, which is located in Burlington, VT. Both shops do an excellent job with ski selection and offer us equipment at significant discounts.
In general, it is most simple for you to contact the shop directly (as opposed to, let’s say, pestering the coach). Information regarding pricing and order deadlines comes out in the summer and fall and will be forwarded to you.

Purchasing Rollerskis
We recommend both Swenor and Marwe skate and classic rollerskis. While other brands may work fine we would prefer to see everyone on these two brands so that in general the speeds are similar for all in the training group.

Marwe: We recommend the Marwe “610” model for skate and the “classic” model for classic. Can be purchased from Finn Sisu.

Swenor: For classic the air carbon model is great for lighter skiers (<160lbs), while the fiberglass cap is ideal for heavier skiers (160+ lbs). The Elite skate is an excellent choice for skate rollerskis. Swenors can be purchased from Reliable Racing. If you plan on getting these skis, explicitly request the slowest wheels as the faster wheels do not provide sufficient resistance. We do get a 10-15% team discount, contact the coach for details. Recently the Swenor’s seem to be a better bargain.
