What the proper maintenance is done for

Dirty machines make dirty products. Regular and thorough cleaning of all machinery is essential in order to safeguard products as articles of food. Moreover, dirt in machinery can reduce output, for example by clogging delicate measuring mechanisms, thus perhaps resulting in damaged products or reduced yields. Dirt or corrosion may caus4e a machine break down.

Planned maintenance of machinery is essential in order to avoid expensive stoppages or poor production. Lubrication of moving parts, and the sharpening, adjustment and periodic replacement of cutting tools should be routine.

Manufacturers’ advice on maintenance and lubrication should be followed carefully.

Spares for parts that require regular replacement should be ordered well in advance and held in readiness on sites where local servicing by the makers is not available.

In any factory where several machines are working, it is wise to have at least one skilled maintenance man on the staff.

Most good machines made for food industry are designed to resist the constant attack of water, salt, blood, slime, but nevertheless regular cleaning and maintenance are essential.
