Packaging systems

THE TASK. Bulk materials such as salt, grain, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, meat, etc are produced in large quantities and must be properly packaged for transport to the distributor or to the final consumer. Package sizes must be adapted to individual needs and handling capabilities. The type of transport often determines the choice of packaging materials.

The machinery must satisfy:

- Specific customer demand for bag type, bag material, bag colour, and printing require a high degree of flexibility.

- The ability to adapt to the broad range of prefabricated bags, including bags made from materials such as paper, polyethylene, and woven polypropylene.

- Increasing the customer’s efficiency by providing the best possible working conditions for its employees.

- Reducing the customer’s operating costs through manpower savings and safer working conditions.

- Maximizing the daily production capacity with a minimum in employee staffing.

THE SOLUTION. The Model ABF fully automatic bag filling line was developed specifically for this task. Since its development in 1978, the ABF system has been continuously improved to meet all of the requirements for quality, productivity, safety, and reliability at all times.

Pick outputs of up to 23 bag per minute reflect the high performance standard of ABF bag filling systems. Its linear movements, compact dimensions, and heavyduty structural members provide the greatest degree of reliability and operating safety, even in high-performance operations.

Packaging system International demonstrates its competence in both the smallest details as well as the overall solutions. The result: customers are offered solutions, which are tailored to their individual requirements. This includes the supply of individual components, the preparation of designs, the addition to existing systems, as well as the construction of complete turnkey systems.

THE TECHNOLOGY (Technical realization). Multiple Functions in One System.

Automatic Bag Placing:

- Taking a single bag from the stack

- Opening the bag

- Preparing the bag for placement

Automatic Bag Filling:

- Placing the bag onto the filling spout

- Filling the bag

- Spreading the open end of the bag

- Transferring the bag to the closing device

- Labelling

Exercise 4. Answer the questions to the text:

1. What determines the choice of packaging material?

2. What does the customer usually demand for?

3. When was the Model ABF introduced for the first time?

4. What requirements does this model meet and why?

5. What provides the greatest degree of reliability and operating safety in this model?

6. How does it act?

Exercise 5. Complete the sentences using the information from the text:

1. Package sizes must be …

2. Pick outputs of up to 23 bag per minute …

3. Packaging system International demonstrates …

4. The ABF system has been continuously improved …

5. Its linear movements, compact dimensions, and heavyduty structural members …

Exercise 6. Say whether the sentences are true or false. If the sentence is false give the right variant.

1. The type of transport often determines the choice of packaging materials.

2. The machinery must satisfy only the ability to adapt to the broad range of prefabricated bags.

3. Bulk materials such as salt, grain, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, meat, etc are usually produced in small quantities.
