Speak about England’s best known public school Eton and Oxford and Cambridge universities

It is a common knowledge that nowadays higher education is extremely necessary for every modern specialist. Nowadays a lot of parents prefer to send their children to private colleges, like Eton for example.

Eton is a public school, founded in 1440; it is the best known of Britain’s private schools. Despite the fact that Eton is a college for boys only it is very popular and has a brilliant reputation. Parents who wish to send their son to Eton must put his name on a waiting list at birth or even before. That all dictate its extremely high price. Actually, entering such an educational institution one has to be ready to follow its rather strict rule and wear the uniform, no matter you like it or not. Also boys have to wear ridiculous tail-coat, funny collars, white bow ties and stripy trousers. There’s even a secret language of Eton and they have all sorts of secret signs as well. For example, capping. To my mind the greatest advantage about private colleges or schools is that the level of education is very high there. As a rule, after leaving a private college one can easily enter any university they want. But usually talented graduates choose universities with excellent reputations. Oxbridge is the perfect choice.

University of Oxford and The University of Cambridge are the oldest university of England. The university grew rapidly from 1167, after English students were banned from attending the University of Paris.

Oxford’s structure can be confusing to those unfamiliar with it. The university is essentially a federation: it comprises over forty self-governing colleges and halls, along with a central administration headed by the Vice-Chancellor. The academic departments are located centrally within this structure. The departments perform research, provide facilities for teaching and research, organize lectures and seminars, and determine the syllabi and guidelines for the teaching of students. Colleges then organize the tutorial teaching for their undergraduates. Facilities such as libraries are provided on all these levels. Oxford’s central research library is the Bodleian, it is the second-largest library in the UK, after the British Library.

What about Colleges of Cambridge, university is made up of self-governing and independent colleges, each with its own property and income. Most colleges bring together academics and students from a broad range of disciplines and within each faculty, school or department within the university, academics from different colleges will be found.

The faculties of Cambridge are responsible for ensuring that lectures are given, arranging seminars, performing research and determining the syllabi for teaching, overseen by the General Board. Together with the central administration headed by the Vice-Chancellor, they make up the entire Cambridge University. All students and many of the academics are attached to colleges, where they live, eat and socialize. It is also the place where students may receive their small group teaching sessions. Each college appoints its own teaching staff and fellows in each subject; decides which students to admit, in accordance with university regulations; provides small group teaching sessions, for undergraduates; and is responsible for the domestic arrangements. Cambridge maintains a long tradition of student participation in sport and recreation.
