А. The bee was domesticated for honey at the end of Neolithic Period. Honey has played an important role as food since ancient times; it stopped being the sole sweetening agent only 200 years ago. Bees also provided wax, which was used to make candles. Bees were used, to a limited extent, in warfare, hives being thrown among enemy troops to rout them.

B. The guinea pig was domesticated in pre-Incan times and was introduced to Europe soon after discovery of America. It has become a popular pet and a valuable research animal.

C. Camels are valued as pack or riding animals, and for their wool, milk, skin and meat. They are known only in domestication. Their peculiar feet enable them to walk on sand and snow. If it is necessary camels can live on thorny plants and dried grass. They store fat in their humps, can go without eating and drinking for a few days.

D. The cat doesn’t seem to have been domesticated as a pet until the 16^th century BC in Egypt. This is all stranger as the ancient Egyptians had tamed many types of animals. But once cats were finally were domesticated, their popularity was enormous. The cat became one of the most universally revered animals.
